1. Sea Lions

This mural begins at the water’s edge. When artist Bonnie Nixon saw an aging wall beside the Edgewater Restaurant, since closed, she imagined something more fitting for the coast. The result was a lively mural of seals and pelicans that quickly became a favorite with visitors. Bonnie stated "My kids had the Edgewater's restaurant for 12 years. The old cement wall was a real eye sore for customers, so I decided to spruce it up with something fitting for the area. Seals seemed appropriate, customers loved it! (Mayor) Mary Shammerhorn suggested the pelicans." The orca whales on the buildings eastern exterior wall were painted by Jack Champayne.

2. Orcas

Across the former Edgewaters building, Jack Champayne’s orca whales complete the story with the sea lions and pelicans on mural 1, celebrating the wildlife that shapes life along Oregon’s coast. Champayne's mural spans the length of a blue-painted exterior wall and features a pod of orcas (killer whales). The orcas are painted in a realistic yet stylized manner, with their classic black and white markings.

3. Bandon Fisheries Warehouse

A postcard from the past. Look for the names of local residents hidden in the mural. The Port of Bandon's Centenial Mural depicts a sepia toned, old time picture postcard of a scene with the original buildings on First Street before the devastating fire of 1914. Artist Vicki Affatati used the Bandon Historical Museum for her extensive research so that the clothing, vehicles, boats and buildings are accurate in this period piece mural. Bandon residents made donations to the project and local citizens are written into the mural in a font popular during the early 1900's.

4. Bandon Fisheries Warehouse

A glimpse beneath the surface. The Bull Kelp Mural celebrates the rich underwater world thriving just beyond Bandon’s shoreline. This vibrant mural showcases the incredible diversity of our local kelp ecosystem. It was inspired by the Port of Bandon to represent the beauty and diversity of our local bull kelp biome just off the south coast. Vicki Affatati, Tatiana Havill, Jeff Griffin collaborated on researching the plants and sea animals that exist within this rich environment. The painting was created on 16, four by eight aluminum composite panels in the winter and spring of 2022-23 by Affatati, BHS art student interns and a variety of local volunteers.

7. Lighthouse Cove Inn

Some murals tell a story. Others preserve one. When this iconic lighthouse mural began to fade, artist Vicki Affatati carefully restored Jack Champayne’s original vision with bold new colors. The effort continued with the restoration and preservation of Champayne’s interior and exterior hotel murals, ensuring his artwork can be enjoyed for years to come. A reminder that public art isn’t just created, it’s cared for.

Native plants. Student artists. Community roots. The Go Native Mural celebrates the remarkable plants that thrive along Oregon’s South Coast and provide essential habitat for pollinators. Created in Spring 2017, the mural was the result of a community collaboration between 22 Bandon High School art students, native plant expert Darcy Grahek of Stillwater Native Nursery, and artist/instructor Vicki Affatati. Together, they researched and painted nine large panels featuring species that naturally flourish in our coastal biome. Each native plant grows naturally along this South Coast biome and are essential pollinator habitat. A vibrant reminder that beauty, biodiversity, and community grow together on the Bandon Mural Tour.

10. Art By The Sea Gallery

Inspired by the sea, created by the community. This ocean-inspired mural at Art by the Sea Gallery celebrates the beauty and energy of the Oregon Coast while reflecting the creativity of the local artists who call Bandon home. As a cooperative gallery, Art by the Sea showcases the work of talented regional artists, making this mural a fitting welcome to a space dedicated to artistic expression. 11. Bandon Water Treatment Plant

Where art, wildlife, and community come together. This 530 foot mural was originally painted by Jack Champayne in the 90's. In 2009, artist Vicki Affatati began fundraising and generating interest in the restoration. Her project, "Bringing Jack Back", was multifacted- including working with Bandon High School students to experience civic involvement in a variety of areas from fundraising, engagement with town leaders, art classes and art shows and ending with a team of 7 student artists who worked along side Affatati during the summer of 2010 to restore all areas of the mural. Look closely and you'll find thirty-eight local birds, a sea captain, the Bandon Lighthouse, seals and grey whales woven into one unforgettable mural. The giant whales and seals were restored again by Chance Barnes in the summer of 2023.

12. Lamplighter Inn

A gallery without walls. These vibrant murals come together to tell a larger story, one of creativity, community, and connection. From bold colors and expressive forms to symbols and scenes inspired by local life, each mural contributes its own voice to a collective work of art. Together, they transform an ordinary space into a place of inspiration, inviting visitors to slow down, look closer, and discover the stories woven into every brushstroke.

13. Young Wellness

Float. Breathe. Restore. Painted by Ellyra Knight in 2023, this beautiful mural at Young Wellness reminds us that true wellness comes from learning to rest within life’s tides. She painted this beautiful mural in the summer of 2023 after being a student intern on the Bull Kelp mural. Young Wellness owner, Rachel Young commented "We chose to have this mural painted of a woman floating peacefully in the ocean because it represents the heart of what our wellness spa is about—finding calm in the midst of life’s waves. Just as the ocean holds both depth and movement, so too do our lives. Yet when we allow ourselves to float, to breathe, and to trust the water beneath us, we discover a powerful stillness." The image is a reminder that true wellness doesn’t come from escaping the tides, but from learning to rest within them. It symbolizes renewal, balance, and the quiet strength that comes from surrendering to serenity. A peaceful stop along the Bandon Mural Tour and a favorite place to pause, reflect, and breathe.

14. 11th Street Mural

Bandon, painted in three beautiful chapters. Look closely and you’ll spot a puffin in every panel, a playful detail inspired by the artist’s love of the coast. Designed by artist Mike Vaughan, owner of Vaughn's Landscape Design. Commissioned by Nick Housego who wanted to showcase the icons of Bandon. Each panel depicts a different focus area that makes Bandon unique. Vaughn was inspired by Japanese artists Hokusai. He featured a puffin on each panel and was inspired to add an eagle to a snag in one of the panels after visiting Bandon Dunes "Sheep Ranch" and viewing this scene. Panel one, showcases "Circles in the Sand" with soft pinks and tranquil blues. Panel two features Face Rock with its powerful tide hammering the jagged rocks under sunset hues. Panel three highlights Bandon Dunes and includes massive rock formations.

Where the garden blooms beyond the fence. Bursting with bright daffodils, vibrant nasturtiums, and a monarch butterfly in flight, this joyful mural celebrates the beauty, abundance, and wonder found in a thriving garden. Painted beside raised beds overflowing with living plants, the artwork blends seamlessly with the landscape, making it hard to tell where nature ends and art begins. A cheerful reminder that growth happens one seed, one bloom, and one community at a time.
